American Ginseng

Botanical Name: Panax quinquefolium
Common Names:
American Ginseng, Ginseng
Part Used: Root

Ginseng has been popular in Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries. It is considered especially useful in conditions where there is debility and fatigue, and is also regarded as a longevity tonic and aphrodisiac, often referred to as a ‘cure-all’. In fact the name Panax is derived from the Greek word Panacea meaning ‘heal all’.

With such a reputation, it is not surprising that Ginseng has been the subject of considerable research. In scientific studies, it has been shown to exhibit anti-oxidant, immune stimulating, anti-diabetic and cognitive-enhancing properties as well having the ability to protect the heart and other tissues.

Ginseng is commonly used to boost energy and stamina, and is ideal for those under physical or mental stress to help maintain focus and performance.

The  American Ginseng story….

Once settlers discovered Ginseng growing in America a thriving industry was quickly established harvesting and exporting the herb to supply Chinese demand.

The trade was so successful that wild stocks of this slow growing plant soon became depleted. The herb is now considered endangered, and the harvesting of American Ginseng from the wild is strictly regulated.

Thankfully, we are able to source our American Ginseng from New Zealand growers who produce some of the finest and most potent American Ginseng roots available.

We are proud to support our local growers, while at the same time helping to preserve this precious plant in it’s natural habitat.
