As the name suggests, Eyebright is perhaps best known throughout history for its use in treating conditions of the eye. It has been commonly used as an eyewash or compress to treat conjunctivitis and irritated, itchy eyes.
Eyebright can be useful for conditions such as sinusitis, hayfever, nasal catarrh (excessive mucus particularly of the profuse, watery type), head colds, and ear congestion. For topical conditions of the eye the herbs anti-inflammatory and astringent actions are particularly useful.
The combination of actions in Eyebright makes it particularly helpful for treating conditions associated with irritation and over-secretion of mucus from the membranes of the upper respiratory tract and eyes.
